Concept Note
Research is an important component of higher education. The quality of graduates highly depends on the training they get in carrying out independent research work, which enrich them with skills both in systematic collection of data and analyzing them with a sound theoretical base. Graduate unemployment has been a burning issue in Sri Lanka for the last few decades and the complaint from the private sector employers has mostly been about the lack of analytical skills, together with communication skills of the graduates. A good researcher has more opportunities in the job market as most of the private sector organizations plan their activities based on research and surveys. In addition, graduates today are the researchers of tomorrow. As such, it is the need of the hour to develop a research culture among the graduates. The budding researchers should get more opportunities to present their works. Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of University of Ruhuna organizes its first Students' Annual Sessions with the aim of providing a platform for budding researchers in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences.
