Department of Economics
The Department of Economics provides curricula to promote competent human resources with knowledge, skills and attitudes which help students to become productive and informed citizens. Economics deals with issues arising from the conflicts between human demand for goods and services and the limited supply of resources to satisfy these demands.

Seminar for Advanced Level Economics students
A seminar was organized by the students of the Department of Economics, University of Ruhuna on July 11, 2017 at the Akuressa Maha Vidyalaya to expand the knowledge of the Advanced Level Economics students and to discuss the issues of the Advanced Level Economics syllabus. Many academic staff members of the Department of Economics contributed to this event.

Head's Message
Welcome to the web page of the Department of Economics of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Ruhuna. The Department of Economics strives to provide an excellent learning experience for undergraduate and postgraduate students and to conduct high quality research in Economics. It offers a range of courses and ensures producing a high quality graduates who are well suited for both public and private sectors.
The Department of Economics currently offers two degree programmes, Economics and Social Statistics in both Sinhala and English media. We have nationally and internationally experienced and well qualified academic staffs comprising five PhDs. The students are privileged to enjoy an excellent learning environment with comfortable lecture rooms, a library and a computer lab.
